The 2019 Winter Challenge traverses beautiful east coast coastal tracks and trails with stunning views to Maria Island and beyond. A 10km paddle, 32km road cycle, 15km mtb and 10km run means a total course distance of 70km. How you take on the challenge is up to you, solo or 2 - 4 person team. Start time for the event is 10:00am.
Paddle -10 km
The paddle makes the most of the beautiful bay behind Orford Beach. The course will consist of two laps of a 5km loop within the bay
The course for Juniors (solo and teams) is one lap of the circuit (5 klm)
The SCHOOLS team event will have a separate turning buoy for a 4 klm course.
Road Cycle - 32 km
The road cycle takes cyclists along Rheban rd to the east of Orford. Cyclists will complete 2 laps of the course. There will be a partial road closure on this course to help manage the road stage on public roads.
The course for Juniors (Solo and Teams) and the SCHOOLS team event is one lap of the circuit (16 klm)
MTB - 15 km
As the MTB traverses private property, the course map will not be published. However, the profile will give you an idea of climbing - the highest point is 232m and it is a mix of single track and farm trail. The trail will be similar to the 2018 course with a diversion added around the quarry site.
The SCHOOLS team event will complete a 10 klm course. The diversion points for this course will be marked is will be clearly marked.
Run - 10km
The run traverses the stunning coastline, with views of Maria Island and beyond! The She-oak lined track is a pleasure to run and beaches at either end add to the gorgeous scenery.
